Shell, along with area operators Ultra and Questar, has received the US Bureau of Land Management’s 2009 Environmental Best Management Practices award for its air quality monitoring and mitigation program in Pinedale, Wyoming. Shell is active in the Rocky Mountain region, specifically western Wyoming’s Pinedale Anticline. Located in Sublette County’s Green River Valley, the anticline is estimated to be the third-largest gas field in the US. For year-end 2008, total gross production was about 378 MMcfd of natural gas.


Weatherford International Ltd. has completed its purchase of Secure Drilling. This follows the January 2009 announcement that it had entered a joint venture agreement with Impact Solutions Group Ltd for a 50% interest in Secure Drilling.


Superior Energy Services has relocated two of its facilities to serve the oil and gas industry in and along the Gulf Coast. The company has opened its new Marine Services Division and Concentric Pipe and Tool Rentals operations in New Iberia, Louisiana. The Marine Services Division owns and operates the largest fleet of modern liftboats with leg lengths of 200 ft or greater..


Gulf Copper Drydock and Rig Repair will perform modification work on Ensco 83, a jackup rig owned by a subsidiary of Ensco International. The fifth Ensco rig to enter Gulf Copper’s Galveston, Texas, shipyard since Hurricane Ike, the jackup is undergoing upgrades and refurbishment before it mobilizes from the US Gulf of Mexico to work for Pemex in Mexico. Following the hurricane, silt at the entrance to the Galveston Ship Channel prevented the company from accepting new work for several weeks. Gulf Copper has performed repairs, upgrades or enhancements on six Ensco rigs since September 2007.


InterMoor do Brasil Ltda. has signed a three-year agreement with OGX Petróleo e Gás Participacões SA, a Brazilian independent oil company. InterMoor and OGX will begin a drilling program using four semisubmersible rigs. InterMoor will provide mooring services, including engineering and offshore supervision, as well as rig and anchor handling, tug, supply and positioning systems..


Global Tubing announced that its GT-80 (80,000-psi minimum specified yield strength) coiled tubing products have been integrated into National Oilwell Varco CTES’s Cerberus 9.0 coiled tubing modeling and management software program. Cerberus is a widely used management tool that enables operators to monitor and model the fatigue life and consumption of individual coiled tubing strings. .


After several company acquisitions, notably Production Wireline Services in the US and Wireline Services & Manufacturing in Italy, the Geoservices Group has acquired Petrospec Technologies, specialists in seismic and real-time pore pressure and rock property analysis. Petrospec Technologies conceives, designs, implements and deploys geopressure analysis and drilling engineering software and services to help evaluate potentially overpressured zones from seismic data. .


Garlock Sealing Technologies is opening a new R&D laboratory in Pierrelatte, Drôme Departement, France. The installation was specially designed to develop new dynamic and static waterproofing systems, including the Ultraseal European project for waterproof joints at high temperature.


Subsea 7 Inc. has opened its new pipeline fabrication spoolbase in Port Isabel, Texas. The investment in the spoolbase, over $30 million, allows the company to expand its presence and capabilities in North America and to serve the deepwater pipeline and Steel Catenary Riser (SCR) market. It covers an area of 58 acres and is 6,000 ft in length. The spoolbase will fabricate and store oil and gas pipelines of up to 20-in. OD (16-in. steel plus 2-in. insulation coatings) in lengths of up to 4,000 ft for spooling onto reeled pipelay vessels. The facility will be equipped to weld any steel line pipe material from traditional carbon steel to duplex and clad pipe. In addition, the base will be able to complete the fabrication of plastic-lined pipelines, pipe-in-pipe systems and SCRs. When in full roduction, the base will be able to hold about 18,000 tons of pipe stalks.


SSP Offshore has formed a 50/50 joint venture with Dubai and Kuala Lumpur-based Global Process Systems Inc. to market the corporation’s SSP offshore platform. The joint venture will operate
under the name Global SSP. The SSP hull does not require a turret or cantenary anchor-leg mooring buoy. Global SSP will have exclusive rights under license to market, build, lease and sell the SSP platform in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia/New Zealand and the Caspian.
