In memoriam

McCaughey

McCaughey

John McCaughey, journalist and long-time contributor to World Oil, died on Saturday, July 26. He was 61. McCaughey was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and moved to London as a young man to make his way in journalism. He worked for the Financial Times and was past Editor of The Energy Daily, among many other things. He was a great journalist who wrote with flair and humor, and who loved a well-turned phrase. He is the only man to have succeeded in getting a picture of the Irish poet William Butler Yeats into his Oil and Gas in the Capitals column, not to mention the word “dewlaps.”

He is survived by his wife, Michelle, four sisters who live in Ireland, and many, many friends. He will be dearly missed.
