A. F. Alhajji, associate professor at Ohio Northern University’s College of Business Administration, was appointed to the George W. Patton Chair of Economics at the university. Alhajji is a contributing editor for World Oil.

World Oil names associate publisher

Ron Higgins has been appointed associate publisher of World Oil magazine. He has been in the oil and gas publishing industry for over 35 years. Prior to joining Gulf Publishing Company, Ron worked for PennWell Publishing Company for 34 years covering most of the United States and Canada for advertising sales in Oil & Gas Journal and Offshore. Most recently, Ron represented the Journal of Petroleum Technology. He is a graduate of the University of Houston and is also a member of NOMADS.

 

Andrew Patience joined Aberdeen-based, subsea project management company CSL as client projects delivery manager. He has extensive experience with major oil and gas operators, such as Amerada Hess and Britoil/ BP in the procurement and construction of offshore platforms and FPSOs. Also joining CSL are subsea project managers Mark Gillespie and Michael Rosich, and engineering manager Graham Matthews. Gillespie and Rosich are offshore engineers with international project experience. Matthews has led and managed many subsea design and construction projects in the UK North Sea.

Arnis Judzis, executive VP for Terra-Tek, was elected chairman of the 2006 Offshore Technology Conference. Don Vardeman, Kerr-McGee Corp., is vice chairman. Members of the OTC board are appointed for up to two four-year terms by their respective society or organization. The board includes 13 representatives, 11 from OTC’s sponsoring organizations and two from its endorsing organizations. The chairman and the vice chairman serve two-year terms. Other members of the OTC board include: Frank Adamek, Vetco Gray; Rod Allan, Transocean Inc.; Jack Caldwell, Acous-Tech Seismics; Susan Cunningham, Noble Energy; Rick Hill, EWI Microalloying; John Irwin, Atwood Oceanics Inc.; Tony Jones, OceanUS Consulting; Peter Kinnear, FMC Technologies; Alain Labastie, Total; Bill Luyties, Shell E&P; and Doug Stroud, Canyon Offshore Inc.

T. D. Williamson, Inc., announced that Larry Worley has been named director of TDW Offshore Services. He will be based in Houston. Worley has had over 14 years of experience with Schlumberger, including service in the Middle East, North Sea and West Africa.

Cudd Well Control named Joe Bowden, Jr., senior well control specialist and account executive. He has over 25 years of oilfield experience in all aspects of well control projects on land and offshore. Bowdon has spent his career working as a well control specialist, safety director and sales representative on a variety of well control projects.

READ Well Services appointed Donald Mackay base operations manager, in Bergen, Norway. He has spent most of his oilfield career working for a major global service company in the downhole data sector. He has served in the North Sea, mainland Europe, North America, the Caribbean, West Africa, and Central, Southeast and Far East Asia. He has extensive fieldwork experience and is a wireline specialist.

William S. Cooper III, a partner at Hunton & Williams LLP in Washington, D.C., was named executive director of the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG). Cooper has two decades of experience in the energy industry, in both the public and private sectors. Previously, he served as counsel to the US House Energy and Commerce Committee. He was a drafter and lead negotiator for the Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002, and was also a lead negotiator for the House on several provisions of the energy bills in the 107th and 108th Congresses.

Friendly Energy Corp. appointed Tim DeHerrera as VP of the company. DeHerrera has been an officer or director in numerous public and private companies, and has extensive background in investment banking, capital formation, capital restructures, private placements and deal origination. Friendly Energy Corp. is a development company involved in exploration of low-risk oil and gas properties in the US.

Energy Maintenance Services Group appointed James Croft as general manager of Croft Services, a provider of flow measurement and gas control products, services and systems. He joined Croft Services in 1997 and initiated its entrance into the electronic flow measurement market.

OBITUARY

Fred A. Dix, Jr., executive director emeritus of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the AAPG Foundation, died May 30, 2005. During his 23 years at the helm of AAPG, Dix guided the association through two boom-and-bust cycles, as it grew from fewer than 15,000 members to its peak of over 44,000 in 1985, and to its present 30,000. Dix received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology from Rutgers University. He began his oil industry career with Standard Oil Co. of California as a petroleum geologist in Salt Lake City, and joined Mobil in 1965 as a geologist. He became AAPG executive director in 1973, retiring in 1996.
