CRC-Evans Automatic Welding promoted Brian Laing to president. Laing is a welding engineer with 25 years of experience in pipeline who most recently served as VP of Welding Engineering and Field Service. Bernhard Russheim was promoted to VP – Marketing. Russheim has worked with CRC-Evans for 26 years and most recently served as Director of European Operations.

Thomas E. Stewart was elected chairman of the board of STRONGER, Inc., a non-profit organization whose purpose is to assist states in documenting oil and gas environmental regulations. Stewart is executive VP of the Ohio Oil & Gas Association. Don Garvin was elected vice chairman. He is legislative coordinator and lobbyist for the West Virginia Environmental Council, and has served two terms as president of that organization. The board also elected Lori Wrotenbery secretary-treasurer. She is director of the Oil Conservation Division of the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, and serves as chairman of the New Mexico Oil Conservation Commission.

Ivanhoe Energy appointed J. Steven Rhodes, a former U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe, to serve on the company's board. He is chairman and CEO of Claiborne-Rhodes, Inc., a Los Angeles-based investment company. From 1981 to 1985, he worked at the White House in various positions, including chief domestic advisor to then Vice President George Bush.

Harvest Natural Resources, Inc., appointed Byron A. Dunn to the company's board of directors, and elected Karl L. Nesselrode VP, engineering and business development. Dunn is VP of business development at National Oilwell, and was formerly an executive director of UBS Warburg LLC. Nesselrode joined Harvest Natural Resources in November 2003, and was elected a VP in December. He was president of Reserve Insights, and previously was employed with Anadarko Petroleum.

Geomechanics International, Inc., has hired Patrick Keenan as its president. Keenan, with 29 years of international and US experience, has held a number of senior management positions, including CEO of Coherence Technology Company and VP of worldwide operations for NUMAR. Most recently he was VP of business development at Core Lab.

Randy G. Patterson was promoted to VP, exploration and production, for Yates Petroleum Corp. He will be responsible for all land, geology, engineering, drilling, completion, production and marketing operations. Patterson, a landman who joined Yates in 1978, serves as a member of the board of directors and as secretary of the corporation.

Bill Schrom was appointed CEO of Geotrace. He has been president of Geotrace's Eastern Hemisphere Operations and previously was a senior VP of Western Geophysical.

Karl Strauss has joined Thrustmaster of Texas, a manufacturer of dynamic positioning systems, as offshore projects manager. He will have primary responsibility for all offshore applications, including portable dynamic positioning systems and azimuthing thruster drives.

Janet F. Clark joined Marathon Oil Corp. as senior VP and CFO. She has been CFO of Nuevo Energy Co. in Houston, Texas, for two years. Clark will remain with Nuevo through the end of the year, at which time Michael S. Wilkes will become interim CFO while continuing as Nuevo's VP and controller.

Eurotherm Controls Inc., a unit of Invensys plc, named John Searle as president. He was most recently VP of sales with Barber-Coleman Industrial Instruments division, which became part of Eurotherm in 1999. Al Betz was promoted to VP of sales. He was regional sales director for the Eastern Region.

Willem J. Timmermans retired as president and CEO of INTEC Engineering, the company he helped found 20 years ago. John B. Reed will succeed Timmermans as CEO. He comes to INTEC from Heerema Marine Contractors, where he served as president and business acquisition manager for HMC's North and South America regions.

John Richels was promoted to president of Devon Energy Corp. He was previously senior VP of Devon and president and CEO of the company's Canadian subsidiary. Richels joined Devon in 1998 when it acquired Northstar Energy. Christopher R. Seasons, executive VP of Devon Canada Corp., will replace Richels as president.

Hydro Environmental Resources, Inc., appointed Mark Shmulevsky as Interim CEO. Shmulevsky is currently chief information officer and treasurer of the company. He has been directly involved in overseeing the company's IT technology developments. He as been a board member for the past 18 months.

Producers Assistance Corporation (PAC) appointed Larry A. Froman business development specialist. He was U.S. sales representative for Galperti Engineering, and before that was district manager for Wilson Supply Company.

DEATH

James T. (Terry) Angel, 58, died January 5, 2004. In the late 1980s, Angel was an editorial advisor for World Oil. After graduating from Texas A&M with BS degrees in industrial technology and mechanical engineering, he joined Reading & Bates Drilling Co. in 1972. He held numerous positions in that company before being named president in 1987. He retired in 1993.
