Endeavoring to keep up with an evolving petroleum industry, Gas and Oil Exposition (GO-EXPO) and the Canadian International Petroleum Conference will highlight cutting-edge technology, June 10 – 12, 2003. Likely to draw more than 20,000 Canadian and international visitors to Calgary’s Stampede Park, the biennial GO-EXPO features 85,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor exhibits. There, an unmatched display of Canadian petroleum technology and expertise will greet visitors.

Presented by the Petroleum Society of Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (CIM), the Canadian International Petroleum Conference (CIPC) is in its 54th year. This year’s theme is “Global Challenges & Technology Integration.” CIPC will feature more than 100 relevant technical presentations and special interest sessions, high-profile networking and prominent plenary speakers. Furthermore, the conference and exposition have strengthened their bond to create a more comprehensive effort.

EXPOSITION OVERVIEW

Focusing on new technology for the global oil and gas industry, GO-EXPO’s more than 400 exhibitors showcase the latest innovations from industry leaders. Among this year’s extensive list of equipment/service companies exhibiting are Baker Hughes, Emerson Process Management, Siemens, Kudu Industries, R & M Energy Systems, and Enerflex Systems. Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 10 and 11, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 12.

Special highlights. Visitors to this year’s event will enjoy several featured highlights. Among these are presentations on new oil and gas opportunities in Canada and abroad, as well as an industry-specific career fair that fosters contact between leading employers and industry professionals.

Global Frontiers exhibitor showcase. Frontier markets hold tremendous promise for E&P companies, both in Canada and abroad. Successful development of prospects in these remote arenas requires the support of many sectors. Important exploration players include producers, service/supply companies, all levels of government, industry associations, capital providers and local populations.

To advance development of new frontiers, GO-EXPO has assembled the “Global Frontiers” exhibitor showcase. It will provide a networking vehicle for E&P companies, service providers, governments and associations committed to developing frontier regions. In addition, GO-EXPO will host presentations that specifically deal with issues, developments and technology aimed at streamlining exploration, drilling and production.

International career fair. Included at this year’s event is the international recruitment forum, Oil Career Fair. Created in response to the global shortage of skilled, petroleum industry personnel, this initiative provides an on-site job fair at GO-EXPO and an online forum at www.OilCareerFair.com. It is designed to provide industry organizations with prospective recruits and give qualified personnel a chance to meet potential employers. The Oil Career Fair focuses on local and international businesses, and is intended for both large and small companies and recruitment firms.

Using the online tool prior to the show, candidates can view career openings posted online and apply for desired positions. Hiring companies can pre-select candidates before the event and set up meetings for the on-site GO-EXPO Career Fair. At the show, Career Fair candidates and recruiters have the opportunity for face-to-face meetings.

International Business Forum. This networking feature for international delegates and export-ready companies has been organized to promote global business opportunities. This forum creates a fertile environment, where local company representatives, international delegates and trade commissioners can network while on-site at GO-EXPO. International Business Forum includes several elements. Among these, the Export Cafe allows visitors to roam among various tables hosted by trade commissioners from countries and regions. Panel discussions will focus on Russia and the FSU (June 10, 2:00 to 3:30 a.m.), and Trinidad and Tobago (June 11, 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.). In addition, Keynote Luncheons will feature high-profile speakers (June 10 and 11, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.), and an international reception is slated for June 10 (5:30 to 7:00 p.m.). Finally, a one-on-one session will be held on June 11 (11:00 a.m. – 12 noon) to allow time for international networking and one-on-one meetings.

WORLD OIL CENTRE STAGE

Another unique GO-EXPO feature is the World Oil Centre Stage technical theaters, sponsored by World Oil magazine. The theaters are in the center of the show floor, providing presenters with maximum exposure. Presentations will include case studies on new technologies pertaining to exploration, drilling and production, environmental strategies, and information technology and e-commerce. ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Given Canada’s recent ratification of the Kyoto Accord, the upstream industry must strive to increase the environmental and economic efficiencies of petroleum resource development. At this year’s trade show and conference, new technology displays and case study presentations will spotlight recent innovations in power generation and energy efficiency.

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Held in conjunction with the 2003 GO-EXPO, this year’s 54th CIPC will house some of the industry’s best and brightest as they gather to discuss the latest in technological advancements. Sponsored by Canada’s leading engineering technical association and show partner, the Petroleum Society of CIM, the conference’s theme is Global Challenges & Technology Integration.

Boasting more than 3,200 members worldwide, the Calgary-based Petroleum Society is committed to the technical advancement of its members and the industry through continued education, communication and dissemination of technical information.

CIPC 2003 will feature a powerful, distinguished panel in the Plenary Session that kicks off the afternoon of June 10. CEOs of top industry firms, plus representatives from the Canadian government’s environmental ministry, will weigh in on this year’s theme, chosen to reflect the challenges the industry faces with regard to fluctuating product prices, maturing staff, maturing basins, frontier development and environmental concerns. Guest speakers confirmed to address the Plenary Session include Robert Bacon, Oil and Gas policy Division, World Bank, Washington, D.C, and Dr. Madhav Khandekar, Consulting Meteorologist from Unionville, Ontario, and a former research scientist at Environment Canada, on the “Science of Global Warming.”

Over 1,000 guests are expected to attend the 2003 Conference, which will host more than 135 relevant technical presentations. Topics range from business development and oil sands process engineering to gas development and heavy oil cold production. CIPC will complement the exposition, showcasing not only leading exploration and development technologies, but also putting into practice application of these technologies for its participants.

A dedicated team of volunteers has worked hard to provide a diversified program with a truly international flavor, and they appreciate the continued financial support of all sponsors. The conference profile continues to grow globally, with approximately one-third of the 250 abstracts submitted for presentation coming from outside Canada.

In addition to the 27 technical sessions, CIPC 2003 will also host Special Sessions that appeal to general industry professionals. Several short course tutorials and a Graduate Student Presentation Competition will also be featured. The flagship social event – the Petroleum Society Awards Banquet – will be held at the Calgary Zoo’s newest attraction, “Destination Africa.” For more information on the Petroleum Society, visit www.petsoc.org.

PETROLEUMSHOW.COM

As a value-added service for show visitors, event planners have created the petroleumshow.com website. These online pages provide extensive information about petroleum industry events. After completing their online registrations, industry professionals can create a personalized “show planner” to maximize their visits to GO-EXPO and CIPC. This planning tool, called mypetroleumshow, allows users to conduct research on participating exhibitors and products on display. It also assists users in creating personal itineraries, organizing lists of companies to visit and presentations to attend.  WO
