As military action intensified throughout Iraq and then ended in April, the effect can be seen in the world production table, where the country’s output average was negligible. Saudi Arabia’s heightened production continued at about 9 million bopd. For the first time since the December-February workers’ strike occurred, Venezuelan output topped 2 million bopd. However, the gain in April was half the output restored in March, and there are doubts about how much more the country can add back. On the drilling front, international totals were off seasonally, due to Canada’s annual thaw. However, activity was up marginally in most regions, except for Europe and the Middle East. Drilling continues to recover in the US, where the April total was 31% above a year earlier, and Texas was up an impressive 43%.
