Oilfield biocides
New technical literature on biocides for oilfield applications is available from the Biocides Group of The Dow Chemical Company. DBNPA as a Hydrotest Biocide describes the effectiveness of DBNPA, which quickly and effectively kills problematic microbes, but degrades rapidly enough that it may not require deactivation. The Biodegradation of Glutaraldehyde describes the biodegradation of this chemical in two different OECD protocols – OECD 301A and 306, which is a test of biodegradation in seawater. In each, glutaraldehyde was shown to exceed the pass criteria and thereby have the potential to degrade in a marine environment.
Multi-function gas detector
 A brochure detailing the Orion® G Multigas and Leak Detector is available from MSA Instrument Division. The device is a four-gas, multi-function portable detector featuring one-button calibration, rugged construction, ergonomic design and resistance to dust and water penetration. Users may automatically calibrate the unit, track calibration records and print a computer-generated test receipt. The Orion G detects combustible gas and leaks as well as O2, H2S and CO. A flexible probe sensor makes the unit useful for leak detection on gas meters, pipes, storage tanks and survey sites. Two-button operation allows for use with gloved hands, and a large display is easy to read in low-light conditions.
Electronic enclosers
 A new full-line catalog from Hoffman is a 1,000-page reference for enclosure specifiers and control system design engineers. The Hoffman Specifier’s Guide, Volume 20 details the company’s range of electrical and electronic enclosures and accessories. An expanded technical information chapter serves as a reference for material and finish selection, thermal management, standards and ratings, seismic and electromagnetic compatibility and wireway fill tables. New and updated product information is included for all the company’s product families – modular, operator interface, DataCom, industrial, disconnect, corrosion-resistant, commercial, hazardous location and EMC.
Agitators and mixers
Chemineer, Inc., recently released an updated edition of its capabilities brochure that highlights the company’s line of agitators and mixers. The 12-page publication details features and benefits, applications, key design elements, product range descriptions and contact information. Cut-away graphics are included, illustrating the internal drive mechanisms of the HT Turbine and GT Turbine Agitators, as well as the selection of impellors available for the company’s complete line.
Digital thermometers
A new brochure from Tel-Tru Manufacturing describes the DIGI-TEL line of digital thermometers. These devices combine the easy visual reference of a local indicator and the precision of a digital thermometer with a unique interchangeable probe concept. Solar-powered models are available with an integrated cable and/or probe. The digital thermometers can replace analog dial types, using either mercury, gas or bimetal, with a state-of-the-art microprocessor, resulting in a more reliable, flexible and accurate alternative.
Compressed air video
The Compressed Air and Gas Institute (CAGI) has announced the availability of Air Treatment, a 17-min. video that provides an overview of compressed air treatment. It introduces the viewer to the different ISO air quality classes and answer such questions as: Why treat air? Where do contaminants come from? What are the negative consequences of contaminants in a compressed air system? How much should air be treated? and What role does maintenance play? The video is divided into three sections – Cooling, Drying and Cleaning.
Water jet accessories
A new, 72-page catalog from NLB Corp. highlights the company’s line of high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure water jet accessories. New additions include lances and foot control valves with a quick-change cartridge seal, a 20,000-psi, 3D tank cleaning head, and automated systems for tube lancing and stripe removal. This easy-to-use catalog is full of specifications, photographs and cutaway drawings, so readers can quickly match accessories to their needs. Mass flow measurement
Thermal Instrument Co. has released a new product bulletin that describes the firm’s Model 601-9/9500 thermal mass flowmeter. The bulletin outlines the device’s features, and a color photo shows front and side views. On the flip side, full details of engineering and microprocessor specifications are listed, as are environmental ratings. There is also a description of how the microprocessor can correct readings by accessing operator parameter data that it has stored.
