Nova-flow computer

The Nova-Flow Batch Controller, one in a series of new "plug-n-flow" computers, is suited for flow applications where precise measurement and control of batch quantities are required. The unit provides local display and transmits flow data for control capability. It also provides for single- and dual-stage batching processes, for use on liquids and gases requiring temperature, pressure and compressibility compensation. Several batching methods are available for both single- and dual-stage batching processes. (Hoffer Flow Controls, Inc.)

Seamless production tubing

Koppel MTX is a martensitic, stainless steel tubing designed to produce microstructures that are desired during the seamless tubemaking process. The tubing product offers high strength and toughness with outstanding corrosion resistance. It is suitable for sweet and slightly sour oil and gas applications, and certain hostile environments, including offshore, cold climates and deep wells. Test results indicate that MTX tubing is more corrosion-resistant than 13Cr steel, more embrittlement-resistant than super 13Cr steel, and stronger and tougher than any 13Cr or super 13Cr steel. (NS Group, Inc.)

Well intervention systems

Developed for horizontal tree installations, the Well Intervention and Test Systems (WITS) provides the necessary barriers within the tubing hanger running string for safety in pressure control operations, and access to the well for wireline or coiled tubing strings. The purpose-built, direct-control system is simple and robust for use on moored drilling units. An alternative multiplexed system is available for dynamically-positioned vessels. WITS has been successfully deployed and field-proven on the world’s first, 15,000-psi horizontal tree application in 1,400 ft of water in the Gulf of Mexico. (ABB Vetco Gray)

Sucker rod guide

The patented design of the ULTRA-FLOW 360 provides full-circle wiping of the tubing I.D., thus eliminating rod rotation. It is cost-effective for use on fiberglass and steel rods, and in H2S or standard applications. (Oilfield Improvements, Inc.)

Actuators

The AA-250 is the first in a series of larger, more powerful, giant magnetostrictive actuators. After years of research and development, this actuator marks the improvement of the magnetic circuit design, enabling larger units to be built. The actuator features a max stroke of ±125 microns, blocked force of 2,220 N, dynamic force of 1,110 N and DC resistance of 4.6 ohms. (Etrema Products Inc.)

Positive-displacement pumps

Universal Design is a new concept in rotary gear positive-displacement pumps. The new design dramatically improves the versatility, adaptability and maintainability of the entire pump. It allows all pumps in the standard Haight product line to accept relief valves, lip seals, four types of mechanical seals or packing gland shaft seals. It allows end users to switch, on-line, in-place, from lip seal to mechanical seal or packing with the need for special tools. (Haight Pumps)

Power drive

Fig 1

The portable, electric, heavy-duty 700PD power drive provides power for threading pipe and conduit up to 2 in. in diameter. It uses Reed R12+ Segmental dies and dropheads or Rigid 12R dies and dropheads. The 700PD comes with a free safety vise. It has 1_2-hp and is double-insulated, with a mechanical forward / reverse switch of 25 rpm. It can be used to power hot tapping and drilling machines by adding a power drive adapter. It is CSA-approved, and the vinyl-coated handle provides better electrical safety. (REED Manufacturing Co.)

Ultrasonic monitor

The Ultra-Trak 750 detects structure-borne ultrasounds produced by operating equipment. Some typical applications include early warning of mechanical failure, valve leakage, flow disruption, cavitation, equipment shutdown and arcing in enclosed switchgear. The monitor features a demodulated output that allows the sensor to be connected to FFT analyzers and other recording devices. It can be connected to alarms or recorders if a 4-to-20-mA, current loop power or current loop output is utilized. (UE Systems, Inc.)

Remote medical unit

The VitaLink 1200 is a portable, medical, vital signs monitor for remote use, where there is an absence of primary medical support. It is designed for use by non-medically trained personnel. It transmits a patient’s vital signs in real time via satellite, internet, cellular phone or landline to a remote 24-hr/7-days-a-week medical monitoring center, where professional medical staff can provide appropriate diagnosis and support. The Medical Center receives the vital signs on their display unit via the VitalSoft software. (TeleMedic Systems, Inc.)

Gas monitor

Weighing a little more than a pound, Custodian C – a low cost, four-gas monitor – offers simplified features and easy operation via a single button. It is fully water-resistant and can withstand total immersion in water for up to half an hour. It measures combustible gas, oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide, and has an internal electric pump. Gas levels are displayed on a high-contrast, back-lit display that automatically scrolls between readings. (Crowcon Detection Instruments)

Scale prevention service

ScalePROP offers long-term protection from scale deposition. It is a single treatment that minimizes the need for a series of subsequent squeeze treatments by effectively placing sufficient quantities of scale inhibitor deep into the formation. This service, which is deployed in combination with hydraulic fracturing, provides controlled protection that inhibits scale longer than conventional chemical squeeze treatments. The product’s core component is a ceramic proppant that has been impregnated with scale inhibitor. (Schlumberger)

Input solid state relay

The RVMA family of solid state relays is available as a din-railed, mounted, 25-A or 40-A SSR+, integral heat sink. The unit instantly converts 4-to-20-mA input analog into high-speed, pulse wave modulating or time-proportioning, pulsing output. It offers precise heat control without extra engineering or programming time. It uses Superior Surge Survival engineering to ensure long-term reliability. (Continental Industries International)

Earmuffs

The M Series features a SoftCoat covering that helps muffle transmitted noise. The MI Premium Muff has NRR 29 ratings and features a black-chrome, spring-steel headband that can be folded for storage. The M2 Multi-Position Muff comes with a plastic headband and special molded grips that make fitting, and aligning, quick and easy. (Moldex-Metric, Inc.)

Sealing system

Designed for harsh, abrasive environments, the Ultra-Guard sealing system is engineered to stop leaks in progressing cavity artificial lift systems’ top drives. The sealing system utilizes a hydrodynamic principle to provide seal-to-shaft separation via a lubricant film, virtually eliminating seal and shaft wear while excluding abrasives. Dual independent seal chambers permit continued leak-free operation even if one rotary seal fails. The system is available in 1-1/4-in. or 1-1/2-in. polished rods. (R&M Energy Systems)

Well data processor/analyzer

The latest version of Geolog software offers several innovative new modules that provide users with exclusive functionality and performance. The new capabilities offered in NMR processing and interpretation, well log imaging, petrophysical analysis and electrofacies modeling provide geoscientists with sophisticated tools for the analysis of downhole and reservoir conditions. (Paradigm Geophysical Ltd.)

3-D directional drilling tool

WELL DIRIGENT is a fully automatic, closed-loop, 3-D directional drilling system that follows a predetermined, engineered well path. It automatically corrects any unanticipated deviation from the well path. The unit is equipped with the patented WELLDONE data transmission pulser that continuously transmits data to the surface for monitoring directional performance and other desired data. During the drilling operation, the unit’s down-hole-communication-while-drilling system can respond to specific data requests and receive new data to navigate the drill string to the desired 3-D direction.
