Archie Dunham will serve as chairman of the new ConocoPhillips, while James J. Mulva will be president and CEO.

Cambridge Energy Research Associates has appointed Dr. Matthew Sagers director of energy economics for Eurasia and Eastern Europe.

TotalFinaElf management now includes Jean-Luc Vermeulen, current executive VP heading a new upstream division comprising the exploration / production and gas and power divisions. Christophe de Margerie, executive VP became president of E&P. Jean Privey is president of gas and power.

Stephen M. "Mike" Oxley became the chairman of the International Society of the Energy Advocates.

Houston-based Visual Intelligence Services, Inc., named Jerry Jones as president and CEO.

Expro International Group appointed Nigel Avern as area manager for Norway. Based in Bergen, Norway, his responsibilities include the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Avern has been with Expro for six years. The firm also appointed Bob Will as business stream director, responsible for the strategic development of the firm’s worldwide cased-hole services. He will be based in Aberdeen.

Apache Corp. promoted Thomas P. Chambers to corporate planning VP. Chambers joined the firm in 1995 as planning director.

Scott C. Helmholz, of Springfield, has been nominated to serve on the Illinois Petroleum Resources Board, filling the expired term of Irene Banas of the University of Illinois Energy Resources Center in Chicago.

Santos announced the appointment of Einar Vikingur to chief information officer.

Canyon Offshore appointed Doug Stroud newly created position of sales and marketing VP.

CRC-Evans Pipeline International, Inc., appointed Mike Smith as COO, responsible for overseeing worldwide operations. Paul Evans was appointed Chairman of the board.

Sonsub Inc. announced David Sheetz was promoted to operations VP. In his 12-year career with the company, he has served mostly in operational roles, starting as an ROV technician, progressing through supervisor to offshore superintendent. He will now take responsibility for execution of all offshore projects undertaken by Sonsub.

Austria’s OMV announced changes in its executive board. Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer and Gerhard Roiss were appointed chairman and CEO and deputy chairman, respectively.

Institut Français du Pétrole is reorganizing its general management. The new team will comprise Chairman Claude Mandil and three senior VPs, Edouard Freund, Gerard Fries and Georges Picard. Daniel Morel, formerly CEO was named special advisor to the chairman.

Global Industries, Ltd., appointed James F. Gallagher and Richard D. Porter area VPs of West Africa and Middle East / Asia, respectively. Eddie J. Evans became health and safety VP. WO
