Hundreds of industry leaders celebrated the Finalists and Winners of the 2008 World Oil Awards on Thursday, October 16th. Since the World Oil Awards were established in 2002, more than 60 top innovators have been recognized for their outstanding industry leadership and recognized for serving as an inspiration for the next generation of leadership.

Nominations began online April 18 and ended at midnight July 18, 2008.

The goal of the 2008 World Oil Awards is to applaud the innovations and innovators of the global upstream petroleum industry, demonstrating the technological feats that are the hallmark of our industry. The theme of the 2008 program is “Focus on the Future”. This year's program featured 13 award categories that cover the spectrum of the upstream oil and gas industry, and drew candidates from throughout the globe. En masse, the 13 categories represent the greatest in our industry. Rather than looking back at past achievements, the World Oil Awards are designed to applaud and showcase innovative thinking and next-generation leadership. A new category, the “Next Generation Award,” was added to the 2008 program and developed by the bright and talented World Oil Next Generation Committee.
