World’s largest vessel successfully serviced by Damen Shiprepair Brest

BREST -- Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) returned the Ultra Large Crude Carrier (ULCC) TI Europe, presently the largest vessel in the world, to its owners EURONAV (Belgium) after successfully completing a full technical survey and service.

The sheer size of the vessel represented a considerable challenge in itself, said Jos Goris, managing director of Damen, with the shipyard applying more than 46,000 sq m of silicon paint. However, the yard is capable of accommodating such vessels, given that its largest dry dock, at 420 by 80 m, is one of the largest in Europe.

The TI Europe was built by Daewoo Heavy Industries in 2002, and has an estimated capacity of 441,561 dwt.
