BY DAN STRUMPF

NEW YORK -- The OPEC raised its oil output in April to its highest level in five months, the United States government said.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook that the cartel boosted production to 30.21 MMbopd from 29.93 MMbopd in March.

That is the highest output for the group since November, when output was 30.26 MMbopd.

OPEC spare capacity fell to 2.6 MMbopd; the lowest since December from 2.7 MMbopd.
