Labtech targets expansion in Norwegian market

ABERDEEN - Labtech, the Aberdeen-based global leader in modular engineering, has completed a major order for a Norwegian oilfield services company for deployment in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Known as one of the harshest environments to operate within, the NORSOK standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety, value adding and cost effectiveness for petroleum industry developments and operations in the sector. NORSOK standards are adopted in the region and serve as the standard reference for regulators.

“We are delighted to announce the successful delivery of this project, it represents a significant milestone for us as it is our largest contract to date in the Norwegian market. We have made no secret of our desire to extend our services into the Norwegian sector,” said Labtech sales manager for customer equipment Alan Duguid.

“This project is testimony to Labtech’s capability to serve our growing customer base in the region,” added Mr Duguid.
Labtech, as part of Specialist Services Group, is making its debut at this year’s ONS in Stavanger from August 28-31.

“Labtech’s attendance at ONS 2012 illustrates the company’s growing involvement in the market,” said Labtech HIRE sales manager Iain McMillan, adding: “There is a definite requirement for high quality accommodation in one of the most demanding environments in the world and we intend to serve that market and others from our Aberdeen operation.”

Employing 90 staff across two sites in Aberdeen, Labtech has built a solid reputation for operating a highly successful rental fleet in the UK Continental Shelf. Now the company’s new owners are committed to growing the rental activity.

Labtech is part of Specialist Services Group, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of living quarters, office and technical modular buildings for the oil and gas industry. It recently invested £1 million in the Aberdeen-based hire fleet as part of a £10 million global investment.

The launch earlier this year of the rental operation in Aberdeen has proved to be a great success, predominantly led by 20ft drilling and engineering cabins and laboratories. The new fleet of cabins, all Zone 1 certified and with some fully NORSOK compliant, will serve the growing North Sea market and international requirements. All cabins are fully maintained and serviced making them ready for use when delivered. An additional 70 units are ready for deployment in the Specialist Services Group’s yard in Dubai. The group’s global fleet comprises almost 400 units.
