Ukraine expected to pick ExxonMobil-Shell group for Black Sea oil exploration

HOUSTON -- Ukraine has selected a joint bid led by Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell for oil and gas exploration under the Black Sea, according to three people familiar with the situation, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

The bidding group, which also includes Romania's OMV Petrom S.A. and Ukraine's Nadra, was picked over Russia's Lukoil Holdings, the same report said.

"Big finds are expected in the Skifska field," and are "adjacent and geologically similar to where ExxonMobil and OMV Petrom are exploring off Romania's coast," a Ukrainian government official told the newspaper on condition of anonymity.
