Total restarts UK's Elgin-Franklin gas fields production
BY JAMES HERRON
LONDON -- Total said that it has restarted production of natural gas and condensate from the Elgin-Franklin complex of fields in the United Kingdom North Sea, after receiving approval to do so from the offshore safety regulator last week.
The fields should soon be producing 70,000 boed, Total said in a statement. To recover the full production level that existed before the shutdown, due to a gas leak almost a year ago, a plan to drill new wells on the field is under consideration, it said.
The timing of the restart of production at the complex, which contributed around 9% of the United Kingdom's oil and gas production before the shutdown, is important for the United Kingdom economy as it teeters on the brink of its third recession in five years.
