ROGER JORDAN, Associate Editor

SINGAPORE – Three people have died after a semisubmersible barge sank off Indonesia on July 18, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has reported.

The Singapore-registered barge POSH MOGAMI sank 2 nautical miles northeast of Sekupang, Batam, Indonesia.

Nine people were on board the vessel when the incident occurred.  Indonesian authorities have since rescued 6 people and recovered 3 bodies.

The vessel is reported to have been carrying out submerging trials at the time of the incident.

“As the Flag Administration of POSH MOGAMI, MPA is investigating the cause of the incident with the relevant authorities,” the agency said in a statement.
