Thanksgiving turkey fry oil to become biodiesel fuel

Turkey-powered. That's the idea behind a recycling project in the New Orleans area.

The Cajun tradition of deep frying the Thanksgiving bird is growing in popularity. Now, a New Orleans nonprofit wants to get some mileage out of all that used oil. The Gulfsouth Youth Biodiesel Project collected the fry oil at a number of sites in the Crescent City area.

The oil will be converted into clean-burning biodiesel fuel. Project director Hamilton Simons-Jones says with all the fried turkey lovers, they could be getting as much as 10,000 gallons of used oil.
