Tenaris to build sucker rods mill in the U.S.
CONROE -- Tenaris announced today that it will invest $70 million to build a new sucker rods mill with a production capacity of 1,800,000 units per year to serve its growing North American market. It will be built alongside Tenaris’ welded tubes mill in Conroe, Texas, and start up is planned for the second semester of 2014.
The new mill will include non-destructive testing (NDT), forging lines, heat treatment and threading and finishing processes, a coupling shop and a centralizer line. The company said its automated operations aim to improve efficiency and reduce production times. The investment will create 200 new jobs once the mill is fully operational.
Currently, the company has sucker rods production facilities in Argentina, Brazil, Romania and Mexico. With this investment, Tenaris will increase its annual production capacity in sucker rods to more than 4 million units. It will produce a variety of Tenaris products, including BlueRod premium sucker rods, the HolloRod Series and XTorque rods, as well as the entire range of API sucker rods for beam pumping and progressive cavity pumping.
