Stone Energy wins NOIA award for Gulf of Mexico decommissioning
WASHINGTON -- Stone Energy was announced as the 2013 recipient of the National Ocean Industries Association’s “Safety-in-Seas Award” for its innovative safety leadership in pioneering a new decommissioning method. Made possible through the use of a 335-ft self-elevating Montco liftboat, the new method departs from the traditional approach of performing decommissioning work steps sequentially, to performing them concurrently. The method was applied during Stone’s 2012 Gulf of Mexico decommissioning campaign.
Stone Energy’s award-winning nomination was selected by a panel of judges from the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Academy of Science’s Transportation Research Board, and the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. The award was presented at NOIA’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
