Rosneft may boost output at Verkhnechonsk field by tenfold
BY JAMES MARSON
MOSCOW -- Rosneft could ramp up production at its Verkhnechonsk field by as much as tenfold by 2017, depending on the results of exploration work, a company official told The Wall Street Journal.
Verkhnechonsk and surrounding fields in Irkutsk Oblast in Eastern Siberia could produce up to 20 MMtpa, compared with the current level of 2 MMtpa, the official said. The final figure will become clear after exploration work is completed, the official added.
The additional output would likely be sent eastward to Asia. Rosneft in March signed a deal to more than double oil deliveries to China from the current 15 MMtpa.
Rosneft acquired control of Verkhnechonsk when it took over TNK-BP in March to become the world's largest listed oil producer.
