Pump Efficiency: A “Wormhole” to Sustainability
Energy efficiency is critically important as unconventional oil production is on the rise and in light of growing cost pressures on the oil and gas industry. For refining operations, oil with higher levels of impurities increases production costs because more energy is devoted to the refining process. Production costs are also higher because more sulfur and other compounds have to be contained by environmental monitoring and emission controls. Both the economic and environmental challenges facing oil and gas refineries can be met–and overall plant efficiency improved–employing a fairly straightforward solution: improved process control.
