Petrobras CEO Gabrielli to leave post to enter politics
SAO PAULO -- Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR) Chief Executive Jose Sergio Gabrielli plans to leave his post at Brazil's largest company in terms of revenue to enter politics, Valor Economico newspaper reported on Monday.
Gabrielli aims to leave the state-run firm, known as Petrobras, to assume a post in the government of Bahia, Brazil's sixth-largest state in terms of gross domestic product, before running for governor of the state in 2013, the financial newspaper reported.
Petrobras officials weren't immediately available to comment on the report.
The executive will be replaced by Marias das Graca Foster, the company's director of gas and energy. Gabrielli, who became chief executive of Petrobas in 2005, will leave the post Feb. 12, according to the report. Foster has served as Petrobras director of natural gas and energy since 2007. She has a chemical engineering degree from the Federal Fluminense University.(UFF) and has a post-graduate degree in nuclear engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, plus an MBA in economy from Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro.
