PetroVietnam asking Rosneft to invest in offshore Vietnam oil blocks
BY VU TRONG KHANH
HANOI -- PetroVietnam, said it is asking Rosneft to invest in oil and gas blocks offshore Vietnam. The company's statement didn't elaborate on the proposed investment.
Word of the request comes after PetroVietnam Chairman Phung Dinh Thuc met with Rosneft President Ivanovich Sechin in Russia earlier this week. At that meeting, Mr. Thuc suggested setting up a joint venture between PetroVietnam and Rosneft to explore and produce oil and gas in Russia, and asked Rosneft to consider selling crude oil to Vietnam, the company's statement said.
It cited Mr. Ivanovich Sechin as saying Rosneft is willing to cooperate with PetroVietnam in oil and gas projects. PetroVietnam said the two companies are expected to sign an agreement next year for oil and gas cooperation.
