SAO PAULO -- OGX Maranhao said it has received a license to start producing natural gas in two fields in northeast Brazil's Parnaiba Basin.
OGX Maranhao is a partnership between OGX Petroleo e Gas Participacoes and MPX Energia, both controlled by billionaire Eike Batista.
The fields are named Gaviao Real and Gaviao Azul. The company said the Gaviao Real project is currently "quite advanced," with production expected to start in the last quarter of 2012.
