Petrochina drills the first multilateral well in Iraq's Halfaya field
BASRA -- Petrochina's Chinese Bohai Company has finished the drilling of a multilateral well, which is the first of its type in Iraq in the Halfaya oil field. Located 35 km southeast in Omara governorate, the well was drilled in Mushrif reservoir and contains two laterals. Local Maysan Oil Company (MOC) is operator of the field.
Mr. Swaydig, Director General of MOC, said the three wells will be connected soon to the production system after the completion, in addition to six wells that are being drilled. The Chinese company, which took the contract of Halfaya field rehabilitation in the second licensing round, has drilled 32 wells since 2012, in addition to the rehabilitation of six wells.
The Halfaya produces about 110 Mbopd, 106 Mbopd of them are exported via Basra ports. The field contains eight explored reservoirs, which contains 16 Bbbl of reserve, 4 Bbbl of them are extractable. The first drilled well in the field was in 1976.
