Gazprom seeks stake in Eni's Mozambique gas assets
MOSCOW -- Gazprom has been in discussions to acquire a stake in Eni’s Mozambique assets, Bloomberg News reported on its website.
Eni has discovered 75 Tcf of gas in offshore fields in Mozambique's Area 4, according to the report, and Gazprom is "interested in the asset" the report cited a spokesman as saying. The size of the stake hasn't been decided on and negotiations may not end in a deal, the sources said in the report. Eni declined comment, the report added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning to meet Mozambican President Armando Guebuza at a summit in South Africa next week to hold talks on investment in Mozambique's energy industry, Bloomberg News cited its sources as saying. Rosneft is also interested in participating in projects, the report added.
Mr. Putin's spokesman declined comment, the report said.
