Gazprom discovers new gas field in Kirinsky block of Sakhalin III project
Gazprom, Russia’s leading national oil and gas company, has announced the discovery of a new gas field in Kirinsky block of the Sakhalin III project on the shelf of the Okhotskoe Sea. Gas reserves and resources of the Sakhalin III project are estimated at some 1.4 trillion cubic meters. The bulk of them are concentrated in the Kirinsky block (nearly 1 trillion cubic meters). Gazprom is planning exploration activity through 2013 to evaluate the resources. The exploration program includes over 3 thousand sq km of 3D seismic surveys and more than 20 exploration wells. The reserves are forecast to grow by some 600 million tons of fuel equivalent, including approximately 500 billion cubic meters of gas. The Kirinsky field will supply gas to the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas transportation system project.
