  • G&G advances critical for shale definition and efficient development

    Bill Pike

Although a surfeit of shale gas has slowed shale development somewhat in the U.S., development continues, especially in oil and liquid wet gas shale plays across the country. Outside the U.S., shale development is picking up speed in a number of promising areas, driven by higher prices in non-U.S. markets and improvements in technology for exploring, characterizing and developing shales. What were first thought of as homogenous formations are now understood to be much more complicated, due to continued advances in geophysical and geological tools and techniques, which not only better define the shales, but dictate how they should be developed.
