First shipments of Angola LNG expected in first quarter 2013

BY SARAH KENT

VIENNA -- Angola LNG is expected to start regular exports of LNG in the first quarter on next year and will target buyers in Europe and Asia, oil minister Jose Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos said.

The venture, a 5.2 MMtpy LNG project led by Sonangol and Chevron, was supposed to begin commercial shipments earlier this year. However, the start of exports has been delayed several times, although some shipping tests have been conducted in recent months.

European giants BP, Eni and Total each hold a stake of 13.6% in the project, while Sonangol holds 22.8% and Chevron 36.4%.
