RISK MANAGEMENT REBORN In the past, most gas in inter- and intra-state commerce was bought and sold under long-term contract. For the most part, the players were producers and users. Risk aversion was a given, not an issue, because the players were risk averse and were quite willing to operate on the simple basis of honoring a straightforward deal. Enter the new game. Remember the Enron Meltdown? The West Coast Scam? The players in those high-flying games were “traders.”
