Eni gets exploration licenses in Barents Sea, offshore Norway

BY LIAM MOLONEY

ROME -- Eni Wednesday said it has been awarded four exploration licenses in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway, as Italy' s biggest energy company by market value is committed to expand in the hydrocarbon-rich Northern European country.

In a statement, Eni said it was awarded the four licenses, three of which as operator, by the Norwegian government following the 22nd international licensing round that ended Wednesday.

The Rome-based company, which has been operating in Norway since 1964, has a daily oil production in the country of about 111,000 bbl.
