Derrick Services completes portion of EnQuest Thistle platform upgrade project
NORFOLK -- Derrick Services, a U.K.-based drilling structure services group, has completed installation work on EnQuest’s Thistle platform power upgrade project. Derrick Services was contracted by brownfield services company Wood Group PSN to perform work on the North Sea project.
According to EnQuest, the independent producer has undertaken the Thistle Late Life Extension (LLX) project as part of a strategy to recover an estimated 35 million barrels of oil from the Thistle and Deveron fields.
Derrick Services successfully installed a new gas turbine generator package exhaust stack and support tower as part of EnQuest’s five-theme upgrade. A team of specialists from EnQuest, Wood Group PSN, Derrick Services and platform operations conducted the design and construction safety reviews of the exhaust stack and support tower installation. An onshore trial assembly for the installation was carried out in early September 2012.
The offshore stage of activities commenced in late September 2012, and, despite weather constraints, the installation of the exhaust stack, support tower and tie-back restraints was carried out without incident.
