  • Dynamic swab-surge model: Validation/ field examples

    G. R. Samuel, G. McColpin and P. Bern

Today’s more complex wells require close planning and monitoring of well pressures during drilling / completion operations. Based on dynamic surge pressure models which have led to a new engineering software suite, downhole pressure behavior can now be predicted. The following discussion summarizes the need for such data and the background of the new model’s development. Case histories, using information from BP’s field operations present comparative curves of measured and predicted pressures in three example situations: 1) swabbing with circulation; 2) reciprocating without circulation; and 3) surge without circulation.
