Croatia may replace Hungary in Gazprom's South Stream pipeline
BUDAPEST--Russian energy group OAO Gazprom is in active negotiations to take its South Stream natural gas pipeline heading for Austria through Croatia instead of Hungary.
The Russian major is in talks with Croatian peer Plinacro on an alternative version of the pipeline taking Russian gas to central Europe because of administrative delays in Hungary that may impede implementation of the project, the paper said, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
It said that there is a 50-50 chance that Gazprom will choose to take the pipeline through Croatia considering the situation in Hungary. It added that Russia will reach a decision on the matter in two months.
