Chevron wins exploration bid in Sierra Leone

SIERRA LEONE -- Chevron said it has been awarded participation in a deep water exploration area off the coast of Sierra Leone in West Africa. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed by the San Ramon, Calif oil major.

Two exploration blocks will be combined into one concession area located between 75 and 110 miles southwest of the capital of Freetown. Under the award Chevron will be the operator in the area with a 55% interest, along with a 30% interest by Noble Energy.
