News from SEG 2012: CGGVeritas, Saudi Aramco launch robotized seabed seismic acquisition

LAS VEGAS – CGGVeritas and Saudi Aramco are collaborating on a new, robotized seabed seismic data acquisition system. The SpiceRack system was unveiled at a press conference at the SEG 2012 conference.
CGGVeritas and Saudi Aramco will work in partnership to develop, manufacture and commercialize a robotized solution for seabed acquisition. The system is based on the deployment of self-propelled recording nodes.
CGGVeritas is also establishing a Center of Excellence for Automation in Geophysical Acquisition within a new technology center to be opened in the Dhahran Techno Valley with ARGAS, the Saudi joint venture with TAQA.
CGGVeritas CEO Jean-Georges Malcor unveiled the SpiceRack node before standing room attendance at the CGGVeritas exhibit. The system development background and technology were explained by Thierry Brizzard, CGGVeritas Vice President Technology; and Samer al Ashgar, Manager of the Saudi Aramco EXPEC Advanced Research Center.
