Blackford Dolphin returns from Brazil to UK, Irish contracts
LONDON -- Dolphin Drilling has secured two key contract wins for its semi-submersible, the Blackford Dolphin in the North Sea market.
The high-specification deepwater drilling rig, a rebuild investment amounting to $550 million, has been involved with activity offshore of Brazil for much of the last three years and is now scheduled to contracts within the UK and Irish sectors.
Dolphin Drilling has entered into contracts with MPX North Sea Ltd for one well in the UK sector and Capricorn Ireland for one well offshore Ireland with the Blackford Dolphin.
The first well in the UK is due to commence early first quarter 2014 following the rig’s mobilisation from Brazil and completion of its five-year class survey. The combined contract duration with MPX and Capricorn is expected to be around five months. The estimated total contract value is $67 million.
The rig is equipped with a versatile capability for mooring in shallow and deepwater locations in as much as 6,000 ft of water. It is equipped with 15K well control system capable of carrying out HPHT work.
