Bankrupt church seeks oil spill funds
Maybe it’s not that unusual for a church to declare bankruptcy. But when the church also is seeking money from BP because of economic damages from last year’s gulf oil spill, it gets our attention.
Faith Christian Family Church in Panama City Beach had been drawing other attention even before it stopped making payments on a $2.8 million loan from SunTrust last year, newsherald.com reports.
It’s also involved in a battle with the Bay County Property Appraiser’s Office, which refused to grant tax exemption status to the multimillion-dollar home the church uses as a parsonage.
