BASF unit Wintershall makes oil discovery off coast of Denmark
FRANKFURT -- Wintershall, Germany's largest oil and gas producer, said Monday it has made an oil discovery off the coast of Denmark, adding that preliminary estimates indicate around 100 MMbbl oil in place.
The unit of German chemicals giant BASF said discovery was made in the Hibonite structure, located in the 5/06 license in the Danish sector of the North Sea, approximately 337 km north of Den Helder and 278 km west of Esbjerg.
The Hibonite prospect lies around seven km north of the Ravn Field which was successfully appraised in 2009 with the Ravn-3 well.
