Alberta Finance Minister: Need to look for other customers for oil sands
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- The finance minister of Alberta said Monday the Canadian province needs to seek out other customers for its oil, saying it is too reliant on the U.S.
Alberta is the source of much of Canada's oil production and would have been the starting point for the shelved Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Ron Liepert told an audience in New York that he is confident the pipeline will ultimately be approved after the U.S. presidential election in November, "but we've been surprised before."
"Today we rely too much on the U.S. as our only customer," he said. "We want the U.S. to increase its supply from Canada ... To do that we need to get that product to you."
