BOGOTA – The highlight of the opening session of the Oil & Gas Expo Colombia 2012 was the release of the preliminary results of Colombia Ronda 2012. Orlando Cabrales, President of ANH, Colombia’s licensing and regulatory agency, said 105 offers were received for the 49 blocks. Each of the blocks received at least one offer.
Ecopetrol, Colombia’s state-owned oil company, won the most blocks, 11 in total, of which five are 100% owned and six in partnership. The operators winning three blocks each were Anadarko, ExxonMobil and CNOOC. India’s ONGC won two blocks, one wholly owned and the other in 50% partnership with Sinopec. Single-block winners included Shell and Repsol.
The blocks to be developed include several in the onshore area with shale potential. While most of the offshore blocks were on the Caribbean side, two were Tumaco offshore blocks on the Pacific side.
Cabrales said a total of $2.6 billion were invested by the operators in the round. The final list of winners would be announced on Nov. 19 and lease agreements would be signed by the end of 2012.
