50 million tonnes of LNG produced on Sakhalin Island

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Russia -- The LNG plant operated by Sakhalin Energy has now produced 50 million tonnes of LNG.

Since February 2009, Sakhalin Energy has supplied 769 cargoes of LNG. The bulk of the product has been shipped to Japan and South Korea. Also, Sakhalin-2 LNG was delivered to China, India, Thailand and Taiwan. The output of both trains of Sakhalin Energy LNG plant is already sold under long-term contracts.

“This is an important milestone in the history of the company. The delivery of the new for Russia energy product was per our contract obligations and thus we can say that Sakhalin Energy is confidently moving toward its primary objective -- to be the premier energy source for Asia Pacific,” said Roman Dashkov, CEO of Sakhalin Energy.

Sakhalin-2 LNG plant was launched in February 2009, and in less than 18 months had reached its full design output of 9.6 million tonnes of LNG per year. Continuous improvements that have been implemented since 2010 allowed for a 10% increase in production. Sakhalin Energy contributes over 4% of global LNG supplies.
